NEW COMTEC FORMULA FORD BREAKS COVER

14 January, 2008: Comtec Racing has unveiled the car with which the team will bid to recapture its past British Formula Ford Championship glories. The D08 made its bow on Comtec's stand at the Autosport International show in Birmingham ahead of an intensive testing schedule designed to bring the car up to pace in time for Easter's championship kick-off.

It's the first in-house Formula Ford design from Comtec, whose British championship wins in 2000 and '02 came courtesy of Van Diemen chassis.

Comtec's driver development manager, Martin Donnelly, says there will be two works cars on the grid - one for Westley Barber, who will return to the championship he won six years ago, and another for a young Brazilian pilot, Francesco Wieller. "Francesco comes to us highly recommended," added Donnelly, "and with him, Westley and the new car we certainly have the right package to win.

"The D08 is innovative in a number of areas, especially in its aerodynamics, and in the fact that it is equipped with wheel safety tethers." The Scholar-powered car will begin testing in mid-February.

Comtec is also making the D08 available to other teams contesting the Ford-backed championship. Its arrival on the grid is expected to bring to six the number of different chassis in action this season, joining Mygale, Van Diemen, Ray, Getem and Spectrum.

Stars from British Formula Ford gave an impressive account of themselves in the Autosport Show's Live Action arena, staging a total of 13 showcase races during the four-day exhibition. Alex Jones, Jamie Jardine, James Nash, David Brown, Marco Sorensen, Callum Holland and Jay Bridger were the men in action. "They were the stars of the show," said proud co-ordinator Penny Mattocks, "and there were plenty of thrills and spills to keep the audience on the edges of their seats."
