TOP TRIO JOINS THE FORMULA FORD GRID

7 March, 2008: Three top-flight Formula Ford drivers have this week added their names to the lengthening list of those vying to win the prestigious Ford-backed British Championship.

David Brown, Adrian Campfield and Jamie Jardine are the latest to register for the series, bringing to 24 the number of confirmed runners with a fortnight to go before the start of the season.

Brown, 19, will race a second semi-works Fluid Motorsport Van Diemen alongside that of Dane Marco Sorensen; 18-year-old Campfield has joined Spectrum team Kevin Mills Racing to partner Australian Glen Wood; while Jardine, 21, has opted to race one of the new Comtec chassis.

All three have extensive British Formula Ford experience: Glasgow-based Brown was the 2006 Scholarship Cup winner and last year raced a Van Diemen to championship sixth; Surrey's Campfield was successful in FF1600 in 2006 before embarking on a British Championship campaign in '07, scoring several top-five race finishes; and Jardine, from Cheshire, is also a Formula Ford veteran of two seasons standing.

Jardine enjoyed his maiden outing in his new Comtec today, shaking down the car at his home circuit of Oulton Park. "I am only bedding it in, and bedding myself into the car, but I can tell that it is an awesome bit of kit, well capable of winning races," said the Helsby and Longden-backed driver.

The Van Diemen name is one of the most illustrious in recent Formula Ford history, the Norfolk-based marque having won 12 championships in the last 20 years. Managing director Steve Jenner believes the Fluid pairing of Brown and Sorensen will return it to the top: "We are very excited about this driver line-up and Fluid Motorsport's status as our official factory team. We have many development parts and updates to come during the next six weeks."

The opening trio of races in the 25-round British Formula Ford Championship take place at Oulton Park over the Easter weekend (22-24 March).
