KNOCKHILL BATTLE BECKONS FOR FORMULA FORD

3 April, 2008: After its spectacularly successful opening rounds a fortnight ago at Oulton Park, the British Formula Ford Championship heads even further north next weekend (12/13 April), to the Knockhill circuit in Fife, for the continuation of what is shaping up to be a classic battle for supremacy in the Ford-backed series.

The Jamun Racing team and their Mygale-driving heroes Wayne Boyd and Tim Blanchard, both of whom tasted the victory champagne at Oulton, are certain to come under increased pressure in Scotland as their rivals bid to rein them in.

Hoping to lead the charge towards the front is David Brown, from Neilston, Glasgow, who showed considerable pace last month on his debut with the Fluid Motorsport Developments team. The 19-year-old Van Diemen pilot has some valuable recent Knockhill experience, having bagged a brace of second-place finishes there last weekend in Scottish Formula Ford Championship races.

Brown, who won the championship's Scholarship class in 2006, is hopeful of repeating the form which brought him a wet-race podium last time out. "We went well at Oulton Park because we were at less of a disadvantage to the Mygales in the damp. If it's wet at Knockhill we should be in good shape again, but we are also doing a lot of work to make the car more competitive in the dry, so I'll be happy with the conditions whatever, and hopefully we can get among them again and get a result."

Brown and his Danish team-mate Marco Sorenson hold fourth and third places respectively in the points standings, within striking distance of Australian Blanchard and Ulsterman Boyd. Seventeen-year-old Wayne won two of the Oulton races but gifted victory to Blanchard in the third when he slithered off the track.

Tim and Wayne will doubtless come under pressure also from their team-mates James Cole and Victor Correa, both of whom showed promise last time, and from the Getem Racing-prepared Mygales of Linton Stuteley and his Dutch team-mate Chris Maliepaard.

The JTR team is meanwhile expected to have made great strides in getting the best from its new Mygale chassis and driving talents Matt Hamilton, Philippe Layac and Rogier de Wit, and the same should be true of the Kevin Mills Spectrums, which will be handled by Adrian Campfield and Glen Wood, and the Comtecs of Westley Barber, Francisco Weiler and Jamie Jardine.

Reigning Scholarship Champion Matt Dobson returns after a solid start at Oulton in his Inter Motorsport Van Diemen, and will be joined in the team by new championship signing Callum Holland. With extensive karting experience under his belt, 17-year-old Callum is an interesting addition to the Scholarship Class for drivers of older chassis.

The Oulton Scholarship class victors, Alex Jones (Van Diemen) and Garry Findlay (Mygale), will both be on the grid at Knockhill and will be joined there not only by Holland's Van Diemen but also by Felix Scott's Spirit.
