DENMARK TAKES DURATEC ENGINES FOR 2008

13 October, 2007: The Danish Formula Ford Championship is to adopt Duratec power next season, following in the wheeltracks of Britain, Australia and the Benelux countries.

Series organiser the Dansk Automobil Sports Union hopes to attract a grid of a dozen Duratec 1.6 cars in 2008 and, as in the UK, will continue to run a Scholarship class for drivers using older chassis and 1.8-litre power units.

"We are delighted to welcome Denmark to the Duratec club," said Mike Norton, Ford TeamRS Motorsport Manager for the UK. "The adoption of the lighter and more powerful 1.6-litre Duratec engine has revitalised Formula Ford in Britain, Australia, the Netherlands and Belgium, and we hope that this resurgence will now spread across Scandinavia.

"Seven engines are on their way to Denmark already and the club is confident that a 12-car Duratec field can be assembled for the coming season."

Bo Nielsen, DASU Director General and Sporting Director, added: "We are very appreciative of Ford's support for our initiative. Formula Ford is part of Denmark's racing heritage, having been adopted here in 1970, and we very much wish to grow the championship again."
