TANDY JOINS MACLEOD AS BRDC FINALIST

5 November, 2007: Formula Ford Festival victor Nick Tandy is to join 2007 British Formula Ford Champion Callum MacLeod in the finals of the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award.

Tandy bagged his place in the finals of the UK's most prestigious young driver competition thanks to a resounding birthday victory yesterday (Sunday) in the Formula Palmer Audi 'Shootout' race at Snetterton, in which he beat ex-F3 racer Ryan Lewis and a host of FPA regulars.

"When I saw the chequered flag I couldn't comprehend it," said Tandy. "It's great to win in such a competitive field." It was Nick's first experience at the wheel of a car with aerodynamic wings, and his victory came on the day before his 23rd birthday.

Tandy will now join MacLeod, Duncan Tappy - who was the 2005 Formula Ford Championship runner-up - plus Dean Smith, Henry Arundel and Stefan Wilson in a two-day McLaren Autosport BRDC evaluation later this month at Snetterton, where each will be observed driving single-seaters, saloons and sports cars. The ultimate prize is £50,000 and a McLaren Formula 1 test.

Tandy, who cut his racing teeth in stock cars and Minis, hopes his versatility will pay off: "I've demonstrated what I can do in an unfamiliar car this weekend, so I'm looking forward to the test."

The McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner will be announced in London on 2 December. Previous winners include David Coulthard, Dario Franchitti and ex-Formula Ford men Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson.
