DANIEL CAMMISH
SCORES MAIDEN WIN AT ZANDVOORT
5 June 2010:
The JTR team's newest signing, Daniel Cammish, today scored his maiden victory in the Dunlop MSA Formula
Ford Championship of Great Britain
An action-packed
race at the former Grand Prix circuit of Zandvoort in the
Netherlands brought several lead changes, with Cammish crossing
the finish line ahead (by just four-tenths of a second) of Jake
Cook and Scott Malvern. For the latter, finishing third after a
great recovery was enough to extend his championship lead.
With 33 cars, a
combination of the regular entrants from the Dunlop MSA Formula
Ford Championship of Great Britain combined with drivers from the
Dutch and Danish Formula Ford series, the race at Zandvoort on the
support package of the popular and well-promoted Masters event
provided some Formula Ford Festival-like atmosphere.
In qualifying,
19-year old Josh Hill claimed pole position, but he failed to turn
his achievement into a good race result, stalling his engine at
the start and later on stranding his Jamun Racing Mygale in the
gravel trap of the famous Tarzan Corner.
After Hill's
startline trouble, local hero Emil Bernstorff took the lead, but
soon the safety car was deployed while a stricken car was removed
to safety. Racing resumed at the start of lap three, and Jake Cook
had the better momentum and took the lead at Tarzan, followed by
Cammish, Dennis Lind and Rogier Jongejans. Erstwhile leader
Bernstorff dropped back to seventh.
On lap six, the
safety car was out again following an accident for Martin Hanssen
at Gerlach. By this time Cliff Dempsey Racing driver Malvern was
already up into fourth. In qualifying, he had had to make do with
seventh with a down-on-power engine which the team replaced
pre-race.
At the restart
Malvern started his attacks on Lind in the battle for third place
and successfully overtook his opponent at Tarzan. Out in front,
Cammish passed Cook and drove home safely for victory, followed
across the line by Cook, who scored his best finish yet, and
Malvern. Lind ended up fourth from Dutch drivers Slaghekke and
Rogier Jongejans, with Scandinavians Antti Buri, Emil Bernstoff
and Nils Vestergard next up.
Multiple race
victor Scott Pye placed 10th after a battle from the back of the
grid, the Australian having started from the back of the grid
after problems in qualifying.
Race winner Cammish
was overjoyed with his maiden victory: "My first race for JTR
and a win already. It couldn't have been any better. But I had to
work hard for it. This was the hardest race of my career by
far."
JTR's joy was
doubled by their young Mexican charge Dani Domit, who scored his
first win in the Scholarship division, ahead of class points
leader Luke Williams.
