FROM FORMULA FORD TO WORLD TITLE: BUTTON FOLLOWS A FAMILIAR PATH

18 October 2009: The British Formula Ford family today joins the UK's motorsport community in applauding Jenson Button's World Championship victory. Jenson is the latest in a long line of Formula Ford racers to make it to the top, adding his name to those of James Hunt, Emerson Fittipaldi, Jody Scheckter, Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, Damon Hill, Mika Hakkinen, Michael Schumacher and Kimi Raikkonen.

"Jenson Button is Formula Ford's ninth World Champion and the fourth Brit to have used Formula Ford as a launchpad to motorsporting greatness," said Sam Roach, of MSA Formula Ford Championship promoter RacingLine. "I know that everyone involved with Formula Ford now and at any stage in its 42-year history will join me in offering our heartfelt congratulations to Jenson."

Button was Formula Ford Champion in 1998 at the wheel of a Hayward Racing-run Mygale; he was Mygale's first champion in the series. Jenson also won the Formula Ford Festival that season and was the McLaren Autosport Award winner; he used these successes as his leg up into Formula 3 and F1.
