FORD GRID GROWS DAILY…
13 March, 2009:
The field gathering for this season's MSA Formula Ford
Championship of Great Britain is one of the strongest and most
exciting ever seen. Among the registrations received already are a
super-strength squad from Kevin Mills Racing, a works entry from
Ray and registrations from two teams new to the championship.
KMR completed its
line-up this week with the addition of Super 1 karting frontrunner
Daniel Cammish. Cammish, 20 and from Leeds, joins Welsh racer Alex
Jones and Australian Formula Ford Championship star Daniel
Erickson in the team; they will race the promising Australian
Spectrum chassis.
Enigma Motorsport
is one of the new team names. Set up by Formula Ford racewinner
Linton Stuteley and engineer Thomas Farquhar, the team will field
a brace of Mygales for Archie Hamilton, the 18-year-old grandson
of 1953 Le Mans winner Duncan Hamilton, and for Formula Vee star
Jason Mills, 19.
Another successful
racer, the 1990 Formula Ford Champion Michael Vergers, turns to
team management this season; his new GV Racing squad, formed with
Jacob Greaves, will run Spanish 16-year-old Jordi Cunill in a
Mygale. Further links with Formula Ford's history come with the
entry from Dan de Zille, the 22-year-old son of 1983 Formula Ford
Champion Graham. Dan will make his debut with a Minister
International-prepared Mygale.
The successful Ray
chassis - a winner last season in the Scholarship division with
Chrissie Palmer at the wheel - will be in action again in force in
2009, with a works-run car for Indian novice Zaamin Jaffer and
another for 17-year-old kart star Luke Williams, son of successful
sidecar racer Tony Williams.
Another successful
karter looking to make his mark in single-seaters is 19-year-old
Kieran Vernon, who will pilot a 2007 Spirit chassis run by the
Wrensport team. The veteran of the field is 34-year-old
Yorkshireman Mark Harper, who will pilot an Inter Motorsport-run
Van Diemen.
Registrations are
still being received daily for the MSA Formula Ford Championship
of Great Britain, with reigning champion team Jamun expected soon
to lodge a three-car entry; four works Van Diemens anticipated and
a further two Mygales expected from JTR.
The opening rounds
of the series take place at Easter (11-13 April) at the Oulton
Park circuit in Cheshire.
