FORMULA FORD CHAMPIONS EARN VITAL BACKING

13 March, 2009: Wayne Boyd and Callum MacLeod, Formula Ford's most recent British champions, both received career boosts this week. Reigning title-holder Boyd has been selected as one of the British Racing Drivers Club's 'Superstars' for 2009, while '07 champion MacLeod has landed a plum drive in the Spanish Formula 3 Championship.

Boyd, who graduated from the Ford-backed championship with honours to progress for 2009 into the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series with top team T-Sport, is one of 12 promising young British drivers to receive the BRDC accolade.

The Superstars scheme offers recipients direct assistance in all aspects of professional motor sport, including help with physical and mental training, career guidance, team building skills, sponsorship and marketing advice, access to motor sport seminars and workshops with BRDC members.

Wayne, who won 13 of his 25 races in Formula Ford last season on his way to the title with Jamun Racing, is one of five ex-Formula Ford racers set to blaze a trail in British F3 this season. The others are '07 Formula Ford Festival winner Nick Tandy; Jay Bridger, who won the F3 National Class in 2008 with Fluid Motorsport and who this season races with Team West-Tec in the International Class; and Brazilian hot-shots Victor Correa and Adriano Buzaid.

Callum MacLeod will meanwhile make his Spanish F3 debut this season with Team West-Tec. "I am delighted to be racing again this year," said Callum, "and F3 is where I've wanted to be since I won Formula Ford. Testing is going well, and I am relishing the opportunity to compete on some of the best circuits in the world this season."

Gavin Wills, Team West-Tec co-principal, added: "Callum is a very exciting driver. I am looking forward to working with him, and achieving success together."
