PRIZE ON OFFER IN FORMULA FORD SCHOLARSHIP

6 November,
2009: The quest for the next Jenson Button will take on a new
emphasis in 2010, with a raft of changes planned to enhance the
Scholarship division of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship
of Great Britain.
The Scholarship
class winner next year will win the free use for the 2011 season
of a Van Diemen chassis and Scholar-prepared engine, as well as
free race entries, to put them in pole position for a
full-strength bid for outright championship honours.
"We want young
drivers to look at Formula Ford as a two-year programme,"
says Sam Roach of championship promoter RacingLine, "and that
is why we are enhancing several elements of the Scholarship class,
starting with the champion's prize. A quick young driver coming
into the championship in 2010, perhaps straight from karting, can
now enter the Scholarship with the knowledge that, if they are
good enough, they will have a truly competitive car and engine for
a full title campaign in 2011, as well as a solid boost to their
budget."
Points-scoring in
the main championship and Scholarship divisions will be completely
separate in Formula Ford in 2010; drivers will nominate themselves
at the start of the season as eligible for either one or the
other. There will be trophies for the top three in each class in
every race, and separate podium ceremonies. Scholarship racers
will be distinguished by number panels with yellow backgrounds,
and TV coverage of the class will be increased, with additional
focus on battles for the Scholarship lead.
As in previous
seasons, the Scholarship class will be open only to drivers with
minimal prior single-seater experience. |
