FIREWORKS FROM
NAGASE AT SILVERSTONE
5 November,
2006: Eighteen-year-old Takashi Nagase had a Fifth of November
to remember, the Milton Keynes-based Japanese driver shooting to
his maiden Formula Ford win at Silverstone.
Nagase was
contesting round two of the UK Formula Ford Winter Championship,
and more than made up for the disappointment he suffered in
Friday's opening round, when he was robbed of second place through
gearbox problems.
The Fluid
Motorsport driver started from the pole in his Van Diemen and
overhauled early leader David Brown for top spot on the fourth of
the 12 laps. Brown, who won on Friday, shadowed Nagase all the way
to the chequered flag; he was 1.4s adrift at the line.
Less than 3.5s
covered the top four, with Finn Jesse Krohn claiming third place
in his Ray, just ahead of the similar car of Kent's David Mayes.
The sole
Scholarship Cup runner, Garry Findlay, took fifth ahead of Jason
Down, Graham Carroll and the Clubmans Cup contenders, Stuart
Kestenbaum, Matthew Payne and Mark Williams. Nick Lay, who struck
trouble on Friday also, was the only non-finisher.
Glasgow-based Van
Diemen pilot Brown leads the Winter Championship to next
Saturday's (11 Nov) deciding rounds at Brands Hatch.
